Afonja held significant positions, serving as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of First Bank Plc and being appointed as Minister of Labour during the interim government of Earnest Shonekan. He was also the chairman of Integrated Dimensional System and several other companies.

Ajibola Afonja, a former Minister of Labour and Chairman of First Bank Nigeria, has died at the age of 82. The Oyo-born Prince passed away on Sunday night at the University College Hospital in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Afonja held significant positions, serving as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of First Bank Plc and being appointed as Minister of Labour during the interim government of Earnest Shonekan. He was also the chairman of Integrated Dimensional System and several other companies.

His educational journey took him to Kingston University in Kingston-upon-Thames, Surrey, United Kingdom, where he earned a degree in Accounting in 1970. After graduating, he worked with John Mowlem & Co, a UK-based construction firm known for its notable projects at Buckingham Palace, the House of Commons, 10 Downing Street, Westminster Abbey, London Bridge, the Manchester Metrolink, and the Dublin Port Tunnel.

Afonja's contributions extended beyond his professional roles. As a prominent figure in Oyo, he made pioneering efforts as an industrialist, leaving a legacy of generosity and open-heartedness that touched countless lives. His absence will be deeply felt, but his spirit of leadership and compassion will continue to inspire those who knew him.

The Oyo Global Forum, led by Chairman Taiwo Adebayo, expressed their condolences, emphasizing Afonja's impact on the community. Despite his passing, his vision for transformative business initiatives, such as the E-Customs project, remains a testament to his dedication.

During this time of mourning, the group extends heartfelt sympathies to Afonja's family, the entire Oyo community, and friends and associates worldwide.
