Liverpool forward, Darwin Nunez has expressed regret over Jurgen Klopp's departure from the club at the conclusion of the 2023/23 season.
The Uruguayan striker also mentioned that the club was taken by surprise by the sudden exit of the long-serving manager Klopp.
Remember that Klopp resigned from his position at Anfield after an impressive nine-year stint.
Since assuming control in October 2015, the German has elevated Liverpool from an average team to a powerhouse in both English and European football.
Under his guidance, the Reds won every significant trophy on offer, with the exception of the UEFA Europa League. However, earlier in the year, Klopp made public his intention to step down at the close of the season, attributing it to exhaustion.
Nunez shared his thoughts on the matter, revealing his astonishment and the general reaction within the squad (as reported by El Pais):
"Klopp's departure took us all by surprise. It was unexpected. It's regrettable that he's leaving. I had hoped for him to exit on a high, with victories, but that wasn't the case.
"It's regrettable for the team as well. I wish him nothing but the best."
In Klopp's last season, Liverpool won the EFL Cup and achieved a third-place standing in the Premier League.
