The English defender received a direct red card in their 2-1 victory at Brighton after lashing out at Joao Pedro.
James received the red card just 19 minutes after being substituted into the game.
Following a VAR review, referee Michael Salisbury was prompted to inspect the pitchside monitor, which led to him issuing a straight red card to James.
This marks his second dismissal of the season, and as a result, he will be absent for four upcoming matches.
Consequently, he will be sidelined for the last Premier League game of this season against Bournemouth on Sunday, as well as the first three fixtures of the following season.
