The ex-Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) took on the emirate's highest duty by leading the first session of the enlarged council meeting following his restoration to the position by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf on Friday.
Malam Muhammadu Sanusi II, the 16th Emir of Kano, chaired the initial meeting of the emirate council, which included district heads and key members of the traditional council, at the Gidan Rumfa palace on Sunday.

The ceremony saw at least 40 district heads and prominent senior council members renew their vows of loyalty to the reinstated emir, thereby quelling the previously intense emirship controversy in the state.
As he settled into the palace, 40 district heads and council members prostrated before him, officially confirming his status as the legitimate Emir of Kano.
Among those who paid their respects were the five kingmakers: Madaki, Wali, Makama, Sarkin Bai, and Sarkin Dawaki Mai tuta.
Additional attendees included Waziri, Turaki, Sarkin Shanu, Danburan, Dan İsa, Dan Lawan Dan Amar Magajin Gari, Dan Majen, Dan Kade, Matawalle, Sarkin Fulanin Jaidanawa, Magajin Malam, Dokaji, and Dandarman Kano.
Also present were Marafa, Dallatu, Magajin Rafi, Sarkin Fada, Bunun, Baura, Dan Madamin, Dan Galadima, Talba, San Turaki, Dangoriba, Dan Maliki, Falaki, Yarima, Baraya, Zanna, Yan Daka, Fagaci, Dan Masani, and Wakilin Barden Kano.
Following the meeting, Emir Sanusi engaged with various groups, including vigilantes, women's organizations, individuals, and supporters who congregated at the palace to express their respect and fealty.
Before the council convened, Emir Sanusi, amid cheers and celebration, made a grand entrance on a white royal horse from his private quarters within the renowned Gidan Rumfa, receiving his people's warm salutations.
Emir Sunusi reassumed his role as Emir on Thursday after Governor Yusuf signed the repeal of the law that had previously led to his dethronement.
This new legislation supersedes the 2019 act that fragmented the Kano emirate into five separate entities and served as the pretext for Sanusi's removal as the Emir of Kano.
