Governor Sanwo-Olu urged the NESG to foster stronger collaboration between government and business sectors to serve and benefit the populace.
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, in a recent statement, acknowledged that while Nigeria’s economic goals have not been fully realized, significant progress has been made. “We have not arrived at our desired destination, but we have certainly moved forward from our past position,” he remarked.
This statement was made at the 30th Anniversary Public Lecture and Founders’ Forum of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG), which took place at the Lagos Business School in Lekki.
Under the banner “In the National Interest: Reflecting on the Past, Reimagining the Future,” Governor Sanwo-Olu, together with NESG Board of Directors Chairman Mr. Niyi Yusuf, unveiled the 30th-anniversary emblem of the Nigerian Economic Summit. He emphasized the importance of uniting individuals across various sectors to face the present economic and social challenges.
Governor Sanwo-Olu urged the NESG to foster stronger collaboration between government and business sectors to serve and benefit the populace.
“We have not yet reached our ideal state, but we have made strides from where we began. It’s crucial to maintain setting ambitious objectives to motivate our nation to strive for excellence. Even if we don’t always meet our goals within the set timeframes, we should never stop making the effort,” he stated.
He highlighted the need for improved internal synergy within the public sector to achieve a unified service agenda for the citizens. “The NESG can play a pivotal role in enhancing this synergy,” he added.
Governor Sanwo-Olu also pointed out the significance of connecting policy initiatives with public awareness. “An organization’s impact grows with its ability to engage with the public. The Nigerian Economic Summit should seek ways to expand its public engagement,” he suggested.
He commended the NESG for launching a podcast that facilitates discussions with experts, thereby reaching new audiences. He encouraged the use of digital technology to make the NESG’s contributions more visible to Nigerians, showing how their efforts are enhancing lives and livelihoods.
As a special guest speaker at the NESG’s 30th-anniversary event, Governor Sanwo-Olu praised the NESG for being a catalyst for economic development and promoting collaborative efforts in Nigeria.
He reflected on the Nigerian Economic Summit’s journey since its inception in 1994, shortly after the June 12, 1993, presidential election annulment, noting its evolution into a key facilitator of impactful national reforms.
Dr. Pascal Dozie, Chairman of the NESG Advisory Board and the first Chairman of the NESG Board of Directors, represented by Business Day CEO and NESG Board Member Frank Aigbogun, described the summit as a vital dialogue platform for assessing Nigeria’s economic landscape.
Additionally, Mrs. Ifueko Omoigui-Okauru, Managing Partner at Compliance Professionals PLC, emphasized the importance of public-private partnerships in creating a network of individuals committed to collective progress across all sectors.
