Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, visited the scene to offer condolences to the affected families and the Ometan community.
A tragic oil tanker explosion has claimed the lives of at least eight people and razed several houses in the Ometan community, Okpe local government area of Delta State. The incident occurred on Friday when the tanker, traveling from Effurun, lost control while overtaking another vehicle near the boundary bridge between Uvwie and Okpe Local Government Area.
Eyewitnesses described a horrific scene as the front part of the oil tanker detached from the rear compartment, causing a massive explosion that engulfed the surrounding buildings. Residents trapped in the buildings were burnt to death, leaving families and the community in a state of grief.
Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, visited the scene to offer condolences to the affected families and the Ometan community. "I saw dead bodies and those who witnessed the unfortunate incident. It is a very sad situation, and I commiserate with the people of Ometan community and families of those who lost their lives in this unfortunate incident," he said.
This heartbreaking incident comes just four days after a gas tanker explosion in Rivers State claimed multiple lives and destroyed properties, raising concerns about the safety of tankers on Nigerian roads. The frequency of these incidents highlights the need for urgent measures to prevent such tragedies and ensure the safety of citizens.
