Devastating Attack on Ajokpachi Odo Community: A Call for Urgent Action

According to local reports, the attack on Ajokpachi Odo was sparked when herdsmen, engaged in a long-standing feud with the Agatu community, encountered a group of youths on a surveillance mission.

On Tuesday, the Ajokpachi Odo community in Kogi State's Omala Local Government Area suffered a brutal attack by suspected herdsmen, resulting in the tragic loss of at least three lives. The assailants also made off with motorbikes and foodstuffs, leaving scores of residents unaccounted for. This horrific incident occurs mere weeks after a similar attack on the neighboring Agojeju Odo community, which claimed over 20 lives.

According to local reports, the attack on Ajokpachi Odo was sparked when herdsmen, engaged in a long-standing feud with the Agatu community, encountered a group of youths on a surveillance mission. The ensuing exchange of fire claimed the lives of Musa Sule and two others.

Community leader Nifu Abuka, who narrowly escaped the attack by spending the night in the bush, described the pervasive fear and vulnerability that has gripped the community. He emphasized the urgent need for government intervention, citing the lack of security presence in the area and the ongoing feud between Agatu and herdsmen in neighboring states.

Abuka stressed that the community's very existence is under threat, with survivors forced to flee their ancestral homes and livelihoods. He appealed to the federal and state governments to take decisive action to safeguard the community and prevent further bloodshed.

The Chairman of the Omala Local Government Council, Marknoble Peter Edibo, confirmed the incident and expressed his deep concern about the escalating crisis. He urged the Federal Government to treat the situation as a national emergency and deploy security agents to the affected border communities.

The people of Ajokpachi Odo and surrounding areas are living in constant fear, pleading for protection and justice. It is our collective responsibility to demand action from our leaders and work towards a peaceful resolution to this devastating conflict.
