| Consequences await – NIMC DG cautions staff against fraud |
Addressing the press at the NIMC headquarters in Abuja on Friday, the DG also committed to preventing long waits for minor issues at NIMC centers.
The Director-General of the National Identity Management Commission, NIMC, has issued a caution to the commission's staff regarding involvement in any illegal activities.
She emphasized that any staff member collaborating with unlawful entities would be subject to a disciplinary committee, in line with existing legal frameworks.
Addressing the press at the NIMC headquarters in Abuja on Friday, the DG also committed to preventing long waits for minor issues at NIMC centers.
"I will not tolerate such delays. We will implement all necessary measures to resolve this," she declared.
"Our goal is to make life straightforward and efficient. No one should have to spend three to four hours at the NIMC office for NIN-related services."
Furthermore, she stated, "Any NIMC staff found collaborating with unlawful entities will be brought before a disciplinary committee and prosecuted under the Cybercrime Act of 2015 and the Nigeria Data Protection Act of 2023, as will any illicit actors involved."
Additionally, the DG disclosed that the Commission is contemplating an increase in some of its fees.
"We plan to adjust our fees. The increase will be modest, but an adjustment is due. Our fees have remained unchanged for quite some time. The new rates will not be prohibitive," she concluded.
