The governor’s wife prepared meals for the children and handed out food, along with other relief items and cash donations, during her visit.
Nonye Soludo, the spouse of Anambra State's Governor, has advocated for enhanced welfare, affection, and kindness towards children nationwide, to instill in them a sense of inclusion and optimism about their future.
Mrs. Soludo made this appeal while visiting the Model Community Children Home, an orphanage in Awka, on Sunday, as part of the Children’s Day festivities for this year.
She highlighted the need for love, care, compassion, and special attention for children, particularly those in orphanages, during this time.

In a conversation with reporters post-celebration, she remarked that children are the cornerstone of any nation and must be nurtured and safeguarded with great care, regardless of their family circumstances.
She explained that her visit was in line with the essence of Children’s Day, a time dedicated to enriching children's lives and ensuring they feel valued.
"The Children’s Day is a crucial time for children; it's when we reassure them of their importance to our future and the brightness of their prospects," she said. "It's why we're here today—to celebrate with them, to show them love, and to help make their lives more joyful and meaningful. Cooking and serving them meals is my way of expressing maternal affection."
She stressed that this gesture is a reassurance to the children that they are not forgotten by society and that their future is promising. Moreover, the day serves to highlight children's issues and remind society of their role as the nation's future, underscoring the importance of nurturing their well-being.
Mrs. Soludo also took the opportunity to urge everyone to demonstrate love to children by creating safe and nurturing environments for their growth and development.
Rev. Sister Philomena Akuchukwu, the Coordinator of Model Community Children’s Home, expressed gratitude to Mrs. Soludo, describing her as a compassionate, modest, and devout mother. She assured that the orphanage would continue to support a prosperous Anambra and Governor Chukwuma Soludo's re-election for a second term.
