Chelsea has earmarked 38-year-old coach Kieran McKenna as a prime candidate to succeed Mauricio Pochettino, whose future at the club remains uncertain pending an end-of-season evaluation. Despite Chelsea's recent resurgence, which has propelled them into the top six ahead of the final matchday, the club's leadership remains unconvinced about Pochettino.
A draw against Bournemouth on Sunday would guarantee Chelsea an unexpected return to European competition, a significant turnaround from their mid-table struggles earlier in the season. Although four consecutive victories have strengthened Pochettino's case to stay, The Guardian reports that Chelsea is still considering a managerial change.
McKenna, currently the manager of Ipswich Town, is a strong contender. Chelsea has already initiated discussions with his representatives. McKenna, seen as one of England's most promising coaches, achieved remarkable success since joining Ipswich in 2021, guiding the team from League One to the Premier League with consecutive promotions.
