| Former EFCC Chairman Ibrahim Lamorde Passes Away |

Ibrahim Lamorde, the ex-chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has passed away at the age of 61.

Born on December 20, 1962, Lamorde began his career with the Nigerian Police in 1986 and concluded it as a Deputy Inspector General of Police in 2021.
During his tenure in the police force, he held the position of EFCC chairman from 2011 to 2015.
As per the EFCC's official website, Lamorde was the third Executive Chairman of the agency. His initial appointment as acting chairman came on November 3, 2011, after Farida Waziri's dismissal by President Goodluck Jonathan. The Senate confirmed him as the substantive third Chairman of the EFCC on February 15, 2012.
Lamorde, a native of Mubi, Adamawa State, graduated from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology in 1984 and joined the Nigerian Police Force two years later.
Upon the establishment of the EFCC in 2003, Lamorde became the inaugural Director of Operations. He assumed the role of Acting Chairman in January 2008, a position he maintained until the Senate confirmed Mrs. Waziri as Chairperson in June 2008. In December 2010, Lamorde returned to the EFCC as Director of Operations, succeeding Stephen Otitoju.
Following Mrs. Waziri's departure on November 23, 2011, Lamorde, then an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), was appointed Acting Chairman once more. His confirmation as the permanent Chairman of the EFCC occurred on February 15, 2012, and he served until November 9, 2015, when President Buhari appointed Ibrahim Magu as the acting EFCC Chairman.
