Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar is set to represent President Bola Tinubu at the 2024 US-Africa Business Summit in Dallas, Texas, taking over from Vice President Kashim Shettima, contrary to prior announcements.
Due to a technical issue with his aircraft, Vice President Shettima was advised by the Presidential Air Fleet to cancel his trip, as disclosed in a statement released Monday evening by his spokesperson, Mr. Stanley Nkwocha. Nkwocha confirmed that Vice President Shettima, who has returned to Abuja, will proceed with other national responsibilities.
The prominent summit, hosted at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center, is expected to assemble political and business figures from Africa, the United States, and beyond.
Organized by the Corporate Council on Africa, the event includes high-level discussions, networking opportunities, and plenary sessions.
Distinguished African attendees will include Presidents Joseph Boakai of Liberia; Lazarus Chakwera of Malawi; Joao Lourenço of Angola; Mokgweetsi E. K. Masisi of Botswana; José Maria Neves of Cabo Verde, and Lesotho's Deputy Prime Minister, Nthomeng Majara.
The summit's goal is to enhance economic collaboration and uncover investment prospects between the United States and African nations.
In addition to the main summit events, Minister Tuggar is slated to participate in the African Infrastructure Investment Roundtable, emphasizing impact and returns.
He will also join a high-level agribusiness panel, addressing the transition "from food insecurity to successful agribusinesses."
Furthermore, Tuggar will contribute to a plenary on charting Africa's Energy Future and lead a session promoting the 'invest in Nigeria' campaign.
He will also partake in various meetings and activities alongside the summit.
Minister Tuggar is anticipated to return to the country following the conclusion of his US commitments.
