Blasphemy Case: Appeal Court Begins Hearing for Abduljabbar |
The Appeal Division of the Kano State High Court has initiated proceedings in the case of Sheikh Abduljabbar Nasiru Kabara, who was sentenced to death by hanging by the Upper Shari’ah Court in Kofar Kudu.
According to a report by Daily Trust, Abduljabbar was found guilty of defaming the personality of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) by Justice Ibrahim Sarki Yola. During the Monday mention of the case, Barrister Sadik Yusuf, the appellant's counsel, informed the court of his readiness for the hearing. However, Barrister Bashir Saleh, representing the Kano State government, requested an adjournment, citing unpreparedness.
The appellant's counsel also sought a N20 million cost against the respondents for wasting the appellant's time. In response, the respondents' counsel objected, stating that they received the court processes in March, not February, as claimed by the appellant's counsel. Consequently, the request for cost was withdrawn, and the case has been adjourned to May 9, 2024, for the hearing.
