Biafra Day: No clash with sit-at-home advocates – Gov Otti

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has declared that his administration will not engage in needless disputes with those advocating for the May 30 sit-at-home to commemorate the fallen of the Nigerian civil war.

Through his media aide, Mr. Ferdinand Ekeoma, the governor acknowledged the public's right to grieve for their deceased.

He also mentioned that the state government is coordinating with educational institutions to make certain that the ongoing West African Examination Council (WAEC) exams are not negatively impacted.

The government is liaising with all affected schools to determine how to proceed so that WAEC exams proceed smoothly. The administration is working with schools to manage the situation effectively.

"We have no desire for pointless altercations with individuals calling for a sit-at-home in memory of their departed, who have every right to their mourning, particularly considering the war's history.

"It's a subject that should remain apolitical. Recalling the war's atrocities is a sensitive time. Our focus is not on confronting those who wish to honor the memory of the war's casualties.

We're addressing the matter with tact and diplomacy, engaging with all relevant parties. The government is implementing strategies that it prefers to keep confidential.

"The priority is ensuring that students can sit for their exams. While there are details we choose not to reveal, rest assured that we are establishing measures to maintain peace in Abia State," he stated.
