Biafra Day: Imo streets deserted, businesses closed as locals heed IPOB’s sit-at-home call

On Thursday, Owerri, the capital of Imo State, saw a cessation of economic activities as locals adhered to the sit-at-home directive issued by the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, despite police assurances of security1.

Observations revealed that commercial establishments, including shops, markets, and both public and private offices, remained shut1.

It is noted that IPOB had mandated a sit-at-home for Southeast residents in observance of Biafra Day1.

The group designated May 30 as a day of remembrance for those who sacrificed their lives during the Biafra civil war1.

Additionally, IPOB warned the West African Examinations Council, WAEC, to refrain from holding exams in the Southeast on this day1.
