Bandits attack Plateau community, killing over 40 |
The community members reported that the immediate reporting of the incident was hindered by the area's weak communication network.
Reportedly, bandits have launched an assault on Zurak village in the Bashar District of Wase Local Government Area in Plateau State, resulting in the death of over 40 individuals, including some vigilantes.
The Daily Trust has reported that the attack took place around 5:00 pm on Monday, during a time when the villagers were engaged in their daily routines, as per the statements from local residents.
The community members reported that the immediate reporting of the incident was hindered by the area's weak communication network.
Sahpi’i Sambo, a local youth leader, also confirmed the attack to the publication, stating that the bandits rode into the village on motorcycles, armed with advanced weaponry, and began firing indiscriminately.
"Over 40 people have lost their lives, and many have been injured. The villagers have evacuated to nearby communities seeking safety. As of the last update, security forces had not reached the village. The attack was devastating," recounted Sambo.
As of now, there has been no official statement from security authorities regarding the incident.
