In the early hours of Monday, gunmen abducted 13 residents of Piko community in Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Among the victims are a pastor from the village and an assistant head teacher with the Local Education Authority (LEA) in the neighboring Shere community.
The bandits subsequently made a demand for over N900 million in exchange for the release of the victims. The incident has raised concerns about security in the region.
According to reports, the bandits arrived in the community shortly after midnight and targeted a nearby herders' settlement. They abducted two herders and a pregnant woman. However, they later released the Fulani woman along with the physically challenged head teacher and another individual.
The FCT police command spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, has been contacted regarding the incident, but as of now, there has been no official response. The situation remains tense as authorities investigate and address the abduction and demands.
