The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has issued a call to Nigerian youths from the South-East region, urging them **not** to participate in the ongoing recruitment exercise advertised by the Nigerian Army.
In a statement released by its media and publicity secretary, Emma Powerful, IPOB strongly asserts that it would be unwise for any Nigerian youth to enlist in the Army, citing alleged depletion within its ranks.
Recall that the Nigerian Army recently opened its portal for the **87 Regular Recruits Intake for Non-Tradesmen and Women** in early May.
Reacting to this development, the self-determination group specifically cautioned Biafran youths against joining the recruitment drive by the Nigeria Army. They emphasized that it would be foolish for any rational Nigerian youth, especially those from Biafra, to risk their lives in such a manner.
IPOB further elaborated on its concerns, stating that the terrorists are actively attempting to establish their own Islamic State in the North. These same terrorists have declared war on the Nigerian government and its soldiers, resulting in significant depletion of the Nigerian Military’s manpower.
Moreover, the combination of low morale, tribalism, nepotism, and inadequate salaries within the Nigerian Army has led many soldiers to opt for voluntary retirement. Some of those who applied for voluntary retirement were denied by the Nigerian Army authorities, prompting them to abscond—a situation referred to as “AWOL” by the military. These factors have necessitated the frequent recruitment drives by the Nigerian Army.
In conclusion, IPOB urges Nigerian youths, particularly Biafran youths, to refrain from being recruited by the Nigeria Army and avoid becoming pawns sacrificed for the interests of powerful individuals and groups involved in terrorism.
