The Yobe State Legislature has requested the state’s executive branch to provide aid to kidney transplant recipients.
The request came through a motion of urgent public significance initiated by representatives from Machina, Damaturu central, Bade West, and Mamudo districts, Nasiru Hassan Yusuf, Mohammed Isa Bello, Kachalla Ajiya Maina, and Sanda Kara Bade.
The representatives, addressing the growing number of kidney transplant recipients in the state, emphasized the necessity for support from the government, philanthropic individuals, and other funding bodies in acquiring necessary medications.
The legislators pointed out that kidney transplant recipients rely on costly medications for survival and require financial support due to the prevailing economic difficulties.
Endorsing the motion, the legislators from Gujba, Jakusko, and Bursari constituencies, Bulama Bukar, Adamu Dala Dogo, and Babagana Zanna, among others, highlighted the motion’s urgency and the need for swift governmental action.
Overseeing the session, the House Speaker, Chiroma Buba Mashio, confirmed the Legislature’s commitment to working with the executive to find a permanent resolution to the kidney disease cases in the state.
