The historic city of Kano is gripped with tension as two rival Emirs - the restored Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II and the ousted Emir Aminu Ado Bayero, have declared their intention to conduct Jumaat prayers at the Palace Central Mosque.
According to DAILY POST, Emir Malam Muhammadu Sanusi II, who resides within the Palace and is nearer to the disputed Mosque, is anticipated to head the two-unit Friday prayers.
A statement clarified that Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II has traditionally conducted the Jumaat Prayers at the Palace Central Mosque in his capacity as the Amir of the City.
Danburan Kano, Munir Sanusi Bayero, authored a statement detailing the reinstated Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II's procession to the Mosque for leading the Jumaat Prayers, issued on Thursday evening.
Danburan's statement extended an invitation to the citizens of Kano to attend the sermon to be given by Emir Malam Muhammadu Sanusi II.
Conversely, a separate announcement from an associate of the dethroned Emir, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, called upon the public to accompany him to the Emir’s Palace Friday Mosque for the Juma’at prayer, noting that the procession to the Mosque would commence at 12.30 pm.
As of now, the police have not issued a statement regarding the situation.
