The FCT Police Command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, FCT CP Benneth Igweh, successfully rescued individuals who were kidnapped in the Dawaki area of Abuja last Sunday.

SP Josephine Adeh, the FCT police spokesperson, reported in a statement, “Following a distress call about an attack by unidentified gunmen in Dawaki on May 19, 2024, around 11:30 pm, the FCT Police Command operatives, directed by CP Igweh, promptly responded to the incident.

“The police demonstrated exceptional courage and coordination, working together with local hunters to confront the attackers, strategically outmaneuvering them at Ushafa Hill near Bwari and Shishipe Hills close to Mpape. The confrontation led to an intense exchange of gunfire, during which the criminals were outgunned by the police, resulting in their retreat with injuries from bullet wounds, and the safe recovery of the hostages.

One of the individuals rescued is currently receiving medical care in the hospital, while CP Igweh reassures the public of the Command's unwavering commitment to ensuring peace and security in the region. Efforts to locate other captives who escaped during the exchange are still underway,” stated Adeh.

Adeh mentioned that updates on the situation will be shared when available.

LEADERSHIP remembers that the culprits had allegedly abducted 12 people, including eight women and four men, from the Frank Opara Street vicinity in Dawaki, Abuja.
