| Abducted Students at Kogi University to be Rescued, Affirms Ododo |
Ododo announced the deployment of numerous security personnel and local hunters, who are well-acquainted with the region’s geography, to ensure the safe return of the hostages.
Governor Ahmed Ododo of Kogi State has provided assurance to the parents and residents of Kogi State that the students abducted from Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTEC), Osara, Okenese, will be safely recovered.
Ododo announced the deployment of numerous security personnel and local hunters, who are well-acquainted with the region’s geography, to ensure the safe return of the hostages.
The information was relayed in a statement released by Kingsley Femi Fanwo, the Commissioner for Information and Communications, on Friday.
It was reported that bandits had attacked CUSTEC on Thursday night, resulting in the abduction of several students.
According to an eyewitness, the assailants targeted the university around 9:00 p.m. as students were preparing for their forthcoming examinations.
In response to the incident this morning, the governor described the report as “extremely troubling.”
The official statement declared, “Upon receiving the report, Kogi State Governor, His Excellency Alh. Ahmed Usman Ododo, immediately mobilized the state’s security framework to pursue the kidnappers, aiming to rescue the kidnapped students and capture the perpetrators.
A team comprising hundreds of local hunters, familiar with the landscape, alongside standard security forces, is scouring the area to guarantee the students’ safe retrieval from the classrooms where they were taken. Currently, reports indicate that nine students are unaccounted for.
We want to reassure the students, their parents, and all Kogi State residents that the government is handling the situation and is committed to rescuing all kidnapped students unharmed. Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has also ordered the deployment of security personnel around all higher education institutions within the state.
“We extend our gratitude to the local hunters and security officers who bravely confronted the kidnappers. Their valor and commitment prevented a potentially more disastrous outcome.”
