2027: Opposition Parties Converge in Kaduna to Challenge APC Dominance |
In a significant political development, six political parties have united in Kaduna State with the aim of dislodging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming 2027 general elections.
The summit, themed "Solid Political Party Structure Critical to the Sustainability of the Democratic Process," was organized by the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Notable attendees included the New Nigeria People's Party, the People's Redemption Party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance, the Social Democratic Party, the KOWA Party, the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), and the Coalition of United Political Parties.
Lawal Nalado, the summit's chairman, expressed concern about the "unbearable hardship" faced by Nigerians nationwide. He clarified that the gathering aimed to address the nation's myriad challenges and explore ways to move forward. Contrary to some speculations, the summit was not convened for a merger or coalition among parties.
Nalado emphasized that opposition parties must engage voters at the grassroots level, providing political enlightenment messages that shift the mindset away from associating politics solely with money, religion, or ethnicity. Instead, voters should focus on choosing the right candidates to improve society's social and economic status.
Falalu Bello, National Chairman of the People's Redemption Party (PRP), stressed the importance of effective mobilization by opposition parties. While fielding credible candidates is crucial, mass mobilization is equally essential for electoral success.
Ahmed Tujjani, Chairman of the ADC and IPAC in Kaduna State, clarified that the summit aimed to address socio-economic and political challenges. Rather than forming a coalition, it serves as a platform to discuss common problems and propose realistic solutions ahead of the 2027 elections. A communique summarizing these solutions will be released soon.
