A devastating incident occurred on Monday in Mgbabeluzor village, Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, as a bridge under construction collapsed, claiming the lives of two workers. The Ebonyi State Police Command confirmed the tragic event, which took place at approximately 10 a.m. while construction workers were on site.
According to DSP Joshua Ukandu, the command's spokesman, the victims, Oshim Simon and Francis Inyang, were laborers working with the construction company handling the project. They succumbed to their injuries sustained during the accident.
The bodies of the deceased have been evacuated and taken to Iboko General Hospital Mortuary in the area. The incident serves as a sobering reminder of the importance of prioritizing safety in construction projects to prevent such tragic losses of life. An investigation into the cause of the collapse is expected to follow.
