Rivers Governor, Fubara Commits to Supporting Families of Tanker Explosion Victims

Governor Fubara also emphasized the need for caution while plying the road, stating, "We all know the situation of this road. It is really unfortunate. Most of our people should ply this road with caution. I believe strongly that this situation would have been avoided if the motorists had behaved properly."

On Saturday, Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, visited the scene of the devastating tanker explosion that occurred along the Eleme axis of the East-West Road, resulting in the loss of five lives and the destruction of over 70 vehicles. Accompanied by the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, and the Director of the State Security Service, the governor expressed his condolences and pledged to provide compensation to the affected families.

During his visit, Governor Fubara stated, "We are here to assess the situation and get a firsthand report of the incident that occurred yesterday evening. I was informed of the incident through the MD of Indorama, and I immediately alerted the security agencies to ensure their prompt response."

The governor acknowledged the severity of the situation, noting that a significant number of vehicles were destroyed, and lives were lost. He has requested a comprehensive briefing from the security agencies to determine how the state can support the bereaved families and mitigate their losses.

The incident, which occurred on Friday night, resulted in the deaths of five people, with over 70 vehicles destroyed. The tanker explosion, which happened adjacent to the Indorama Petrochemical Company, is believed to have been caused by a tanker laden with petroleum products that burst into flames, affecting other vehicles in the area.

The Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, and his team were on the ground last night to ensure there was no breakdown of law and order. The state police command has confirmed that five people lost their lives in the incident.
