Former Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has advised his colleague, Yahaya Bello, to come out of hiding and surrender to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations of N80.2 billion fraud. Ortom made this statement during a thanksgiving service organized by his former appointees to mark his 63rd birthday in Makurdi.

The EFCC has filed 19 criminal counts against Bello and others, and Ortom believes it is essential for him to cooperate with the agency and explain his actions during his tenure as governor. He emphasized that evading the invitation and trying to flee would bring shame and disgrace to former governors.

Meanwhile, EFCC operatives had attempted to arrest Bello, but he was whisked away by the current Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo. The agency has vowed to bring Bello to justice, stating that he is not above the law.

In a statement, the EFCC warned against obstruction during its operations, citing an increasing tendency by some individuals and groups to recruit thugs and obstruct lawful operations. The agency is determined to execute the warrant of arrest lawfully obtained against Bello.
