Notorious Motorcycle Thief Arrested in Ekiti State

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abutu Sunday, the suspect and his partner in crime specialized in snatching motorcycles from innocent motorcyclists within Oye-Ekiti.

A notorious motorcycle snatcher, Bernard Shadrach, has been apprehended by the Oye Divisional Police Headquarters in collaboration with residents of Trinity Hostel along Egbe Road, Oye-Ekiti. The suspect was caught in the act of attempting to snatch a motorcycle from a commercial rider.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abutu Sunday, the suspect and his partner in crime specialized in snatching motorcycles from innocent motorcyclists within Oye-Ekiti. However, their luck ran out on April 25, 2024, when they disguised themselves as passengers and boarded a motorcycle. They attacked the motorcyclist with dry, ground pepper and a hammer, but he was able to subdue them with the help of passersby and arrest one while the other escaped.

Further investigation revealed that the suspect was identified by two commercial motorcycle riders who had previously reported stolen motorcycles at the Police Headquarters in Oye Ekiti. The suspect confessed to the crime and revealed that his fleeing partner was the leader of the operation. He also admitted that they relocated from Benin City, Edo State, and started the illegal business in November 2023.

The arrest of Bernard Shadrach marks a significant milestone in the efforts to combat motorcycle theft in Ekiti State. The police are still on the lookout for his fleeing partner, and residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.
