President Bola Tinubu has emphasized the crucial role of technology in fighting corruption and enhancing transparency and accountability in government. During a meeting with Microsoft Founder and Philanthropist, Bill Gates, at the World Economic Forum Special Meeting in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Tinubu highlighted his administration's commitment to investing in technology to accelerate public-sector performance and service delivery.

Tinubu described technology as a potent weapon against corruption, fraud, and irregularity, and expressed his determination to deploy tech solutions to enhance transparency in government interventions, including the recently launched national consumer credit system. He acknowledged initial resistance to efforts to strengthen systems and prevent misconduct but emphasized the long-term benefits of a corruption-free system.

The President shared his experience as Governor of Lagos, where he successfully utilized technology to enhance the state's revenue base, increasing it from N600m to over N8bn. He stressed the importance of collecting and utilizing essential data to create an efficient tax system.

Bill Gates informed the President about a one-identity technological platform that can integrate variegated data, emphasizing the centrality of data harmonization to planning, security, and tax efficiency. He expressed support for Nigeria's digitization efforts and offered assistance in implementing the MOSIP ID technology, which can enhance payment efficiency, financial inclusion, and tax collection.

Gates also highlighted the potential of high-yield seeds and crops to improve productivity and nutrition in Nigeria, citing successful examples from the United States and Brazil. President Tinubu expressed pride in Nigeria's talented youths and their creative approach to technology, emphasizing his commitment to supporting their future prosperity through reform efforts.
