Fuel Scarcity to Persist for Two More Weeks, Marketers Warn

The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has announced that the ongoing fuel scarcity in the country is expected to last for another two weeks. This was disclosed by IPMAN's Public Relations Officer, Chinedu Ukadike, in a recent statement.

According to Ukadike, the scarcity is due to a breach in the international supply chain, which has been impacted by the ongoing turnaround maintenance of refineries in Europe. This has made it challenging to source petroleum products, leading to the current scarcity.

In addition to the refineries' maintenance, Ukadike also attributed the scarcity to importation bottlenecks and the slow pace of license renewal by the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).

The fuel scarcity has already caused transportation chaos in many cities, including Abuja and Lagos, with some fuel stations shutting down and others accused of hoarding the product, leading to persistent queues at dispensing stations.

This development has left many Nigerians stranded, and the situation is expected to persist for at least two more weeks. The government and relevant stakeholders must work together to address the underlying issues and restore normalcy to the fuel supply chain.
