The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) is facing mounting pressure to announce the inaugural flight date for Nigerian pilgrims heading to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the 2024 Hajj. The Independent Hajj Reporters (IHR), a faith-based civil society organization, has called on NAHCON to make the announcement, citing the tradition of announcing the date, venue, and participating states' pilgrims.

With only a few days left until the closure of the e-track portal for visa issuance, NAHCON's silence on the matter has raised concerns. In contrast, major Hajj participating countries have already announced their inaugural flight dates. Indonesia, for instance, will begin airlifting pilgrims on May 12-23, 2024, while Bangladesh and Pakistan will start on May 9. Malaysia will commence its airlift on May 11, and Ghana has announced May 18 as its starting date.

IHR's national coordinator, Ibrahim Mohammed, expressed disappointment at NAHCON's delay in making the announcement, emphasizing the need for timely information to facilitate preparations for the pilgrimage. As Nigeria prepares to join other nations in this sacred journey, NAHCON must prioritize transparency and communication to ensure a successful and hitch-free Hajj experience for Nigerian pilgrims.
