It was a sunny day in Kano, but the Sunshine Stars were left in the dark as Kano Pillars put on a dazzling display of football to thrash them 5-1 in the 22nd round of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) on Sunday.
The hosts wasted no time in asserting their dominance, as Auwalu Ali Malam opened the scoring in the fourth minute with a powerful header from a corner. Rabiu Ali doubled the lead in the 21st minute with a curling free kick that left the goalkeeper stranded.
The second half was more of the same, as Ibrahim Mustapha added two more goals in quick succession, showing his clinical finishing skills in the 47th and 51st minutes. Mustapha Umar completed the rout in the 55th minute with a tap-in from a cross.
The visitors had little to cheer about, except for a consolation goal from a penalty kick in the 81st minute, which was converted by their captain.
