NCC Approves Partial Cut-Off of Glo from MTN Over Unpaid Bills

If you are a Glo user, you may soon find it impossible to call your friends and family on MTN.

This is because the Nigerian Communications Commission has given the green light for MTN Nigeria Communications Plc. to partially disconnect Glo from its network due to outstanding interconnect fees.

The NCC issued a public notice on Monday, signed by its Director of Public Affairs Department, Reuben Muoka, stating that Glo subscribers will not be able to make calls to MTN after 10 (ten) days from the “date of this notice, but will be able to receive calls”.

The public notice reads, “The Nigerian Communications Commission hereby informs the general public and subscribers of Globacom Limited (Globacom) that it has granted approval for the partial disconnection of Globacom from MTN Nigeria Communications Plc. as a result of non-payment of interconnect charges.

“Globacom was informed of the request made by MTN, and was given the chance to respond and defend its case. The Commission, after reviewing the request and the situation of the debt, decided that Globacom does not have enough or valid reason for not paying the interconnect charges.

“All subscribers are therefore advised to take note that: The Commission has approved the partial disconnection of Globacom from MTN in line with Section 100 of the Nigerian Communications Act, 2003 and Paragraph 9 of the Guidelines on Procedure for Granting Approval to Disconnect Telecommunications Operators, 2012.

“After 10 (ten) days from the date of this notice, subscribers of Globacom will not be able to make calls to MTN but will be able to receive calls.

“The Partial disconnection will however allow incoming calls to Globacom network. Please be aware that this disconnection will continue until the Commission decides otherwise.”
