Kano Pillars Football Club seeks leniency from NPFL over N12m fine
The Nigeria Professional Football League Disciplinary Committee has slapped a N12 million fine on Kano Pillars Football Club for alleged misconduct during its week 17 match against Plateau United at Sani Abacha Stadium Kano on Sunday.
The club’s secretary, Sani Ibrahim, issued a statement on Tuesday in Kano, appealing to the committee to review its decision and show some mercy.
The statement said that some thugs disrupted the live broadcast and hurled objects onto the pitch, expressing their displeasure with the referee’s calls.
"We totally condemn this act and urge the committee to be calm and fair in handling this complex issue, considering its role as a neutral arbiter.
"We acknowledge that human beings are prone to errors and therefore we appeal to the committee to examine the matter from all angles and temper justice with mercy.
"Our club supporters have been well-educated by the fans club to display sportsmanship during our matches, as it is done in other parts of the world. We wonder how some miscreants would try to tarnish our reputation.
“This incident has adversely affected our performance in the ongoing League. Sani Abacha Stadium is one of the renowned venues in the country, but how can anyone do something that could jeopardize our club,” the statement read.
The club management also assured that it would work closely with the fans club to take further measures to ensure the team’s excellence among other clubs in the country.
The management pleaded for forgiveness over the behavior of “some few who posed as supporters to commit the act.” NAN
