Governor Fubara reveals why Edison Ehie quit as Speaker
The Governor of Rivers State, Sim Fubara, has shed light on the circumstances that led to the resignation of Edison Ehie as the Speaker of the State’s House of Assembly. He made this disclosure at a meeting in Port Harcourt, where he was joined by prominent personalities such as former state governor Peter Odili and his wife, Mary.
According to Governor Fubara, Ehie’s resignation was a deliberate act to promote peace and stability in the state. He stressed that this was not motivated by any selfish interest or ambition, but by the leadership’s dedication to the welfare of the people. “This is our way of showing you how much we value peace,” Fubara said, responding to the doubts and queries that many had about the unexpected resignation.
Ehie, who was a staunch supporter of Governor Fubara, resigned in the midst of a political crisis that involved a conflict between the governor and Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
Ehie’s resignation, which was confirmed in a letter dated December 29, 2023, and sent to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has been a subject of much debate and analysis in the state’s political scene.
