Fulani Groups Decry Plateau Killings, Say 350 Lives, 834 Cattle Lost In 3 Months
Acoalition of Fulani groups in Plateau State has lamented the loss of 350 of its members and 834 cows to violent attacks in the state between October 2023 and January 2024.
The groups, which consist of MACBAN, GAFDAN, Bajoil Fulani, Jonde Jam Kautal Hore and Lawul Fulaku, said the attacks took place in various communities of Barkin Ladi, Bokkos and Mangu local government areas, according to Daily Trust.
The group’s leader, Malam Nura Adullahi, who is also the State Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), addressed a press conference in Jos on Sunday. He said the Fulani living in the state were facing harassment, abuse, intimidation, and murder.
He also said that properties worth billions of naira were destroyed and eight districts were rendered uninhabitable for the Fulani communities. These districts include Mangu, Panyam, Pushit, Kerang, Bwoi, Kombun, Ampang and Mangum.
He listed some of the villages where the Fulani were displaced as Bwoi, Kombun, Sarfai, Rinago, Jukga, Kuwes, Kaangag, Farinkasa, Kerana, Lugga, Dimeza, Fungong, Gindirin, Gok, Bunghan, Gida, Milet, Rufwang, Dejwak, Lupo, and Wushik.
He said the security agencies in the state were aware of the atrocities committed against the Fulani and urged them to investigate and bring the perpetrators to justice.
He appealed to his members to remain peaceful and law-abiding, and not to retaliate or take matters into their own hands. He also called for humanitarian assistance for the 23,515 internally displaced persons (IDPs) who are living in camps, relatives’ homes and neighboring states such as Bauchi, Kaduna, Nasarawa and Taraba.
