The NNPP has accepted the resolution of Atiku Abubakar to form a new party
The NNPP, led by Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, has accepted the resolution of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to establish a new political party in Nigeria.
The opposition party NNPP in Nigeria has expressed its intention to join the new party and merge with other opposition parties, as requested by Atiku Abubakar last week.
The candidate of the PDP party in the 2023 Nigerian presidential election, Atiku accused the APC of trying to turn Nigeria into a one-party system and called on the opposition parties to unite to challenge the APC’s rule.
The BBC Hausa website reported that the Acting National Chairman of the NNPP, Abba Kawu Ali, stated this on Tuesday during a press conference, saying that Atiku’s call is commendable.
“NNPP sees this call of Atiku as patriotic and welcome,” he said. However, he said that they want to modify the plan.
"However, the NNPP wants to change the nature of the program. We think that it should include everyone, and it should be broadened. Such a coalition of parties was successful in 2015, which enabled them to defeat the PDP government at that time.
“That’s why we think the call made by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is commendable.”
