The Kano government has banned the use of some books in private and public schools across the state

The Kano government has issued a ban on some books in private and public schools across the state. The ban was prompted by complaints from various parties about some of the contents in the books that seem to contradict the teachings of Islam.

The Private Schools Regulatory Commission announced the ban in a statement signed by Hermes Muhammad, the Director of Planning and Research, on behalf of Baba Abubakar Umar, the Deputy Governor for Private Schools.

The banned books are:

• The Queen Primer (all editions), A Royal Series Published by Nelson Publishers Limited

• Basic Science for Junior Secondary School, Razat Publishers, 2018 edition. (for JSS3).

• Active Basic Science, 2014 edition, by Tola Anjorin, Okechukwu Okolo, Philias Yara, Bamidele Mutiu, Fatima Koki, and Lydia Gbagu.

• Basic Science & Technology for Junior Secondary Schools 1, 2 and 3, by W.K Hamzat and S. Bakare.

• New Concept English for Senior Secondary Schools for SSS2, Revised edition (2018 edition), by J Eyisi, A Adekunle, T Adepolu, F Ademola Adeoye, Q Adams and J Eto.

• Basic Social Studies for Primary Schools by BJ Obebe, DM Mohammed, S N Nwosu, J A Adeyanju and ah Carbin

Furthermore, the Chairman of the Kano State Film and Television Commission, Abba AlMustapha, managed to confiscate the copies of the Queen Primer book that the government had prohibited from being used in Kano State.
