Terrorists Kill Five People, Abduct Others During Fresh Assault On Katsina Community
On Sunday night, October 22, 2023, a group of terrorists attacked Danmusa Local Government Area of Katsina State, Nigeria, killing five people and abducting several others. The terrorists also looted houses and shops during the three-hour rampage that left many residents in fear and panic.
According to eyewitnesses, the terrorists arrived on over 40 motorcycles and started shooting indiscriminately at anyone they saw. They also targeted security operatives and vigilantes who tried to repel them. Some of the residents who managed to escape said that the terrorists took away many people from the village, including a businessman named Tukur Makeri, who dealt in agricultural products.
The spokesperson for the state police command, Abubakar Aliyu, confirmed the incident and said that an investigation was underway. He also said that the police had killed scores of terrorists in a gun battle in Sabuwa Local Government Area on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, and recovered one AK-47 rifle and four operational vehicles from them.
The attack on Danmusa is the latest in a series of terrorist activities in Katsina State, which has been plagued by insecurity and violence for years. The state governor, Aminu Masari, has repeatedly appealed to the federal government to deploy more troops and resources to combat the menace of terrorism in the state. He has also called on the residents to cooperate with the security agencies and report any suspicious movements or activities to them.
The federal government, on its part, has vowed to end terrorism and banditry in the country by deploying more military and intelligence assets to the affected areas. The president, Muhammadu Buhari, has also expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and assured them of justice.
