Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum Orders Demolition of Brothels in Maiduguri

Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum has ordered the demolition of brothels and other places of prostitution in Maiduguri, the state capital, within 72 hours. The order was issued on Tuesday during his visit to the ‘Bayan Quarters’ area, a settlement near the railway workers’ quarters, where criminals, prostitutes and drug traffickers are believed to reside.

Zulum expressed his concern over the rampant criminal activities associated with brothels, and instructed government agencies to demolish them within 72 hours. He said that these activities pose a security threat because they breed gangsters who cause social problems and undermine the well-being and dignity of the community.

Zulum further explained that while the houses that harbour criminals and abuse girls will be demolished within 72 hours, the houses of prostitutes have only 12 hours to shut down.
